We are excited to announce alchemia-nova new partnership with the Municipality of Athens (MoA) for the project Cooling Havens: Water-Powered Neighborhood Cooling and Engagement Stations. Our proposal, was selected out of 112 applications competing in the 2nd Call for Proposals of EUI-Innovative Actions.
Under the topic Greening Cities, funded projects will experiment and deliver tangible innovative solutions on green infrastructure across European cities, for better addressing the biodiversity, pollution, resource and climate challenges, including synergy development with other key policy areas.
Cooling Havens will install a series of neighborhood-specific, water-powered public interventions in Athens, and utilize unique alternative water harnessing techniques to create new blue and green infrastructure inside the city. These interventions will not only act as natural cooling agents, thereby reducing urban heat and mitigating climate change effects, but will also serve as community engagement and educational platforms that raise awareness for water conservation, connect water to community life and history and offer capacity building opportunities to different target groups. The focus is not merely on water conservation but on bringing the water element back into the city, turning it into a key feature of public spaces and incorporating a water-centric ethos into the city’s urban planning and lifestyle.
Alchemia-nova adds an innovative layer to the project, infusing it with circular economy & natured based solutions across various work packages. The project kick-offs on December 1st 2024.
